Book Thoughts: The Only One Left by Riley Sager

Calling fans of Verity by Colleen Hoover (5 stars) — Don’t sleep on this one! Immersive, thrilling, twisty, and smart, Riley Sager’s latest release, The Only One Left, is perfect for readers of all genres. The book’s set in the 80s, with most of the story taking place in an old, remote murder mansion built on the edge of a cliff. The spooky vibes are on point here: a creaking house, footsteps down the hallway in the middle of the night, shadows under the door frame and in the window, morally questionable characters with dark secrets, and a paranormal feeling, among other things. So… I’ve encountered many strange situations in the wild (aka the grocery store), but last week, some guy approached me to tell me I looked like his ex-girlfriend... Said he caught me out of the corner of his eye and followed me around the store trying to figure out if I was her. I just stared at him like a deer in headlights because what does one say to that? He didn’t linger, just said his words and moved on, but still.

Weekly Recap: Mogul's 5th Gotcha Day, Labor Day Weekend, and My First Starbucks PSL (Like Ever)!

Now that we’re well into September (how???), I have to say, HAPPY FALL YA’LL (I can see Alex now, reading this, rolling his eyes, and mumbling: “Fall doesn’t start until September 23 this year, it’s not fall!” — FALSE, fall is September and September is fall). The past couple weeks have been equal parts busy, overwhelming, tiring, and fun. I’m hoping for a better, calmer week, but let’s see how that goes (positive attitude Jen, positive attitude).
