What's Behind The Perfect Picture? Bloopers!

For every good photo, there is usually at least one blooper photo from the same moment that goes under-appreciated. Maybe your eyes were closed, maybe you looked away, maybe your hair blew in front of your face, or maybe you opened your mouth to say something that wasn’t “cheese!” as the camera flashed. As awkward as blooper photos can be, I can’t help but love them.

Blooper photos remind me of the days when you had to take photos on a film camera and get the film developed at the store before you could see how the pictures turned out. There was no such thing as “one more” if you didn’t like the first picture; you got what you snapped and you were stuck with printed result whether you liked it or not. Throwing away the photo meant that you lost that moment forever, so what did you do? Simple answer: you added it to the photo bin anyways and laughed about it years later.

Unfortunately, social media encourages us to delete the ”bad” photos and share the “perfect” ones. Without realizing it, we’ve been trained to hit the delete button on all the bloopers in order to create our own picture perfect highlight reels. In reality, I think “bad” pictures are often better than the “good” ones — they show quirks, character, and help create memories to look back and laugh upon. I mean, I’m still laughing at all the “great” pictures of my family and me from the 1990’s and early 2000’s. Good times.

As many of you know, I love sharing photos of my dog on social media (maybe too much!). People always leave comments like “he’s so photogenic!” or “you always get your dog to sit still!” or “you always take the perfect pictures with your dog!”. I’m here today to tell you there’s actually a lot of work that goes into the making of a perfect dog picture. Believe me!

I woke up this morning with an idea — I wanted to write a blog post showing my blooper reel of dog pictures from 2019. I went through my photo log and found a bunch of good ones for you. Please enjoy this segment of The Good Shot & Behind The Scenes!
