Let’s Make Whipped Coffee!

Over the past few weeks, you may have seen people posting all over the Internet whipping up a buzzy new coffee drink that looks a lot like a fluffy caramel-colored blob resting atop a glass of milk with some ice cubes. This DIY coffee drink and latest viral Internet trend is appropriately named Whipped Coffee — and guess what? It’s such an easy coffee drink to make! Requiring only four ingredients, a few utensils, and a little arm strength, Whipped Coffee is a quick, refreshing way to enjoy a cup of iced coffee.

In the name of FOMO, I joined the trend and made my first ever glass of Whipped Coffee earlier today. I’ve never been good at making cute coffee drinks, but given the current quarantine situation and warmer temperatures looming in the days ahead, I’ve got a revived interest to improve my specialty coffee-making craft. And that starts with Whipped Coffee, my friends!

Here are the ingredients required to make Whipped Coffee:

  • 2 tbsp instant coffee

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 2 tbsp water

  • 1 glass of milk with ice cubes

Now that you have all the ingredients, follow these simple instructions to make your first glass:

Step 1: Combine the coffee, sugar, and water together in a bowl.

Note: The color of the coffee mixture starts out dark brown and lightens as you whisk it.

Step 2: Using a whisk, whisk the ingredients together for about five minutes. The coffee mixture should become caramel-colored and fluffy — this is your sign that the mixture is whipped and ready.

Not gonna lie, my arm was sore after all this whisking!

Step 3: Pour a glass of milk over ice.

Step 4: Add the coffee whip atop the milk, then take a photo or two or three.

Filling your glass with more milk will yield a fuller, fluffier look.

I recommend you take a least one selfie with your coffee. For science, of course.

Step 5: Stir the coffee whip into the milk, then drink and enjoy!

So, how did I like my first attempt at Whipped Coffee?

All in all, I have to say that I really enjoyed my first glass. Though it’s not the coffee drink I’d choose to have all the time, it was a flavorful refreshing change of pace that will serve as a good summer treat every now and again. To me, Whipped Coffee tastes like a strong coffee milkshake; if you don’t like the taste of strong coffee, you might not like this drink. But I think it’s well worth a try whatever the case.

Let me know your thoughts on Whipped Coffee! Did you love it, hate it, or do you feel it’s pretty meh?

Coffee cheers!
