Weekly Recap: Engagement Pictures, California, and Back to Reality

Every week, I say I’ve been busy, but whew! I mean it. So I’m going to continue to be unoriginal and tell you again — the last few weeks have been busy, busy. Some days it feels like I’m really just running on fumes. Between work, traveling, and wedding planning, my schedule is jam packed, and, well… it’s not stopping anytime soon.

What I’ve been up to:

A couple weeks ago, Alex and I scheduled an engagement session with our wedding photographer and had the best time getting our pictures taken! I was so nervous about what to wear and how it was going to go, but pulling up to the photo site, all my nerves disappeared. Honestly, our photographer was so friendly and bubbly (a perfect fit for us really) and it ended up being one of the most fun couple things we’ve done in awhile. We’re waiting to get the gallery back and I can’t wait to see and share our favorites.

Last week, Alex submitted his final project for his teaching certification, so we haven’t been on the go as much lately. However, the weekend before last, we did manage to sneak out for an ice cream date at the local farm down the street. Strawberry season is in full swing, so we both enjoyed a homemade strawberry ice cream waffle cone. The weather was beautiful! Hopefully we’ll also be able to go strawberry picking there soon. I’ve never been and it’s on my 2023 spring/summer bucket list.

We also tried to go to the jeweler to look at wedding bands, but leave it to us to pick the one day the place closed early unexpectedly haha. We’re planning to go this week and it’s something we’re both looking forward to. One of the last major wedding things to tackle, so it’ll be nice to cross it off the list.

And now, it’s back to reality after a really wonderful past week in California (my first time). I’ll be posting more soon, but I loved all of it so much. 6.5 days was a long time, yet not enough time. Vacation always works that way, doesn’t it? We went whale watching, LA touring, PCH driving, and brewery hopping the first half of the week, then spent time with family at my cousin’s wedding the second half. So much fun!

Here’s to having a good, positive work week. Believe me, I need a few professional wins because my morale has been riding a rollercoaster I want off of. Sincerely, emotionally exhausted millennial.

What I’ve been reading:

  • The Bullet That Missed by Richard Osman — I love the Thursday Murder Club series so much. I’ve got about 100 pages left in book three and can’t wait for the fourth book to drop later this year.

  • Rootless by Krystle Zara Appiah — I’m listening on audio and enjoying it so far, but it’s been slow going as of late because I’ve been on vacation and haven’t had a lot of time for books.

What I’ve been listening to:

  • Back on a Midnights kick — Thank you Eras Tour for giving me life!

  • Kelly Clarkson’s new songs mine / me — Very excited for her new album to drop later this year.

  • Gave bub by Hoodie Allen another listen on the plane from RDU to LAX — So good.

  • Loving Amelia by Mimi Webb — One of her songs came up on another artist shuffle which led me to the album she just released.

  • Throw You Back from Mackenzie Carpenter’s new self-titled EP — Loving it lately!

What I’ve been watching:

  • You Season 4 — Finished the last episodes a couple weeks ago and WOW. I’m shocked and surprised because I didn’t see the twists coming. I actually really loved Season 4 and the whole series in general.

  • Love is Blind — I haven’t watched the reunion episode but I watched all of the weddings. A couple things surprised me so I’m looking forward to watching the reunion to get the tea. The show definitely isn’t what it used to be.

  • Ginny & Georgia Season 2 — I’m almost done with the second half of the latest season and wow it’s taken a very sad turn I must say.

  • Daisy Jones & the Six — I recently rewatched the first episode and now it’s time to get back to it.

  • NBA Playoffs (especially the Milwaukee Bucks) — Hoping Milwaukee can turn it around because being down 3-1 as the first seed is tough luck. Dismal back to back performances really.

A few other (random) things:

  • Going to rewatch Finding Nemo soon because I was most definitely speaking whale to the humpbacks we saw on our whale watching tour last week. Gave the people some good laughs, that’s for sure.

  • We’re starting to design our wedding invites (!!!) which means it’s getting REAL. Excited though.

  • Bought these Nike shoes for my California trip and they were comfortable!

  • A couple books I’m looking forward to reading are Happy Place by Emily Henry (available today) and Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams (available next week).

  • I was just telling my aunt about Things I Learned from Falling by Claire Nelson. I listened to the audiobook a couple years ago and I still think about it often. The narrator is the author and in her memoir she details her grueling experience from 2018 when she was stranded in Joshua Tree for three nights and four days after falling and shattering her pelvis on a hike. I definitely recommend listening to it if you can, especially if you’re a lover of the outdoors.

Also, if you haven’t noticed, the blog got an update! Visit here. I love how it turned out.

Enjoy!
