Calling fans of Verity by Colleen Hoover (5 stars) — Don’t sleep on this one! Immersive, thrilling, twisty, and smart, Riley Sager’s latest release, The Only One Left, is perfect for readers of all genres. The book’s set in the 80s, with most of the story taking place in an old, remote murder mansion built on the edge of a cliff. The spooky vibes are on point here: a creaking house, footsteps down the hallway in the middle of the night, shadows under the door frame and in the window, morally questionable characters with dark secrets, and a paranormal feeling, among other things. It’s good!

Here’s a list of 10 books I’m hoping to read this fall.

Featuring three installments (The Thursday Murder Club (4 stars), The Man Who Died Twice (5 stars), and The Bullet That Missed (5 stars)) with a fourth set to release this week (The Last Devil to Die — out September 19, 2023), the Thursday Murder Club is an entertaining cozy mystery series that offers a fresh, fun take on the crime fiction and thriller genres. When I stumbled upon and started reading the first book a couple years ago, I had no idea I was about to immerse myself in what would become one of my favorite fictional worlds, solving crimes and cold case murders in the Jigsaw Room at Cooper’s Chase Retirement Facility with my septuagenarian friends Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim, and Ron (aka the Thursday Murder Club).
