Weekly Recap: I Got My Moderna Booster Vaccine!
Grab a coffee and let’s catch up!
What I’ve been up to:
This week I come bearing exciting news! Earlier this week, I received my second dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and I couldn’t be happier about it! Prior to my appointment, I was feeling nervous having heard everyone else’s second dose sickness stories, but fortunately for me, my side effects were super mild, the worse being more fatigue than usual and a 2x2” diameter red swollen spot at my injection site. I’ve been taking it super easy all week to allow myself time to fully recover, but suffice it to say, I’m so excited to be (almost) fully vaccinated!
Coming home from my vaccine appointment Tuesday, I learned there was a gas shortage in North Carolina. And by gas shortage I mean worse panic than hurricane prep. After the Governor’s state of emergency declaration thanks to the security attack that shut down the Colonial Pipeline, gas stations were met with long lines and eventually, no gas to sell to customers. Come Wednesday morning, the MyGasBuddy app basically said there were no gas stations with available gas in my immediate proximity and that over 70% of gas stations across the state were without gas. Crazy, right? Fortunately I’m still working from home so I don’t have to go anywhere, but other people aren’t exactly afforded that luxury. Hopefully the situation gets resolved quickly and gas flow is restored to 100% sooner rather than later.
With the gas situation in mind, it looks like we’ll be staying close to home this weekend, which is totally fine by me. I don’t have much planned (because do I ever?), but I can certainly guarantee I’ll be setting aside time to gas hunt, walk the dog, catch up on laundry, drink coffee, and read my next book of choice, among other things. I finally got the photos from my disposable camera developed, so I’ll (hopefully) write up a blog post this weekend to share those picture memories from our family trip to Oak Island, North Carolina back in late-March. I’m super behind on that one.
What I’ve been watching:
30 Rock. I’m in a major tv show lull right now, so I started 30 Rock on Amazon Prime to pass time. I usually watch tv when I’m cooking/doing dishes, so I needed something to watch!
What I’ve been reading:
Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert. This one was steamy steamy! I’d give it a solid four stars as I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Definitely looking forward to picking up the other books in this sister series sometime later this summer.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Oh my gosh, this book broke my heart but it was so so so good! Five stars from me! Throughout the book, I became so invested in Evelyn’s life, listening to and feeling like her words as if she were a real person. This is now the second book I’ve read by Taylor Jenkins Reid and both main characters (first Daisy Jones, now Evelyn Hugo) are written in a way that makes you believe they’re not just fictional characters, but actual global icons.
What I’ve been listening to:
Repaint My Mind, 2021 by The Wldlfe. I stumbled across this band awhile back and I think their sound is so groovy. I really dig Anxious and Nightmare from this project.
evermore (deluxe version) by Taylor Swift. The more I listen to folklore and evermore, the more appreciation I have for evermore. I wish more people were talking about it as I feel it kind of fell into folklore’s bigger sister shadow.
Future Nostalgia (The Moonlight Edition) by Dua Lipa. I talk about this album all the time, but it’s THAT good. Definitely a solid Top 5 in my favorite pop album category.
good 4 u by Olivia Rodrigo. We love to see it! Album release is next week, how exciting for Olivia!
After Laughter by Paramore. If you haven’t listened to this one yet, give it a listen now! I feel like it rivals Riot! and that’s saying something!
The First Time, Unapologetically, and kelsea by Kelsea Ballerini. Definitely listened to the KB discography the other day while working. She’s one of my favorite artists and I absolutely adore her music. Her artistic growth from album to album is remarkable (something I admire about Taylor Swift too).
From around the web:
Update on the gas shortage in North Carolina. 67% of North Carolina gas stations are still out of gas. Better than earlier this week, but still not good.
CDC releases new mask guidelines for fully vaccinated people. I’m sure it will take time for people to feel comfortable walking in public without a mask, but it’s a step in the right direction. I’m so thankful to have received both of my COVID-19 vaccines.
How to cope with languishing, that blah feeling you’ve been experiencing throughout the pandemic.
Walking your way to better physical and mental health. It’s the easiest form of exercise to accomplish, what more could you ask from a workout.
My pick for 2021’s word of the year — “wholesome”. And why we’re craving wholesome things after a year of life interrupted.
5 tips to go from hating to loving running. Which reminds me, I need to get back on my grind.
Taylor Swift accepts her 2021 BRITs Global Icon Award and gives an emotional, inspiring speech. My favorite line, one I’m sure resonates with many people, including me — "If you're being met with resistance, that probably means doing something new. If you're experiencing turbulence or pressure, that probably means you're rising.”
Thanks for reading. I hope you all have a restful, enjoyable weekend! And don’t forget to get those steps in!
Enjoy!
