10 Books On My Fall Reading List

Happy fall reading season! Though I’m a serial mood reader, I love, love, love creating a fall reading list. There’s something about fall/spooky season that brings out my desire to read books that represent (or kind of represent) the vibe of the season. For the next few months, catch me curled on the couch with a good book, a hot coffee (or a chai latte like I’m sipping now), a sweatshirt, and a big comfy blanket (always). Believe me, I WILL turn the air conditioning down to achieve prime fall cozy. Last year, I read every book on my fall reading list — let’s see if the same results are in the cards this time around! I’ve got thrillers, mysteries, and romances queued up! Here’s a list of 10 books I’m hoping to read this fall.

We Solve Murders by Richard Osman

“A brand new series. An iconic new detective duo. And a puzzling new murder to solve...”

One of my most anticipated 2024 reads! I look forward to jumping into a new series from this witty author. I’m ready to see how he twists a new mystery with a new set of characters. Hoping for that same Thursday Murder Club charm.

All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker

A missing person mystery, a serial killer thriller, a love story, a unique twist on each, Chris Whitaker has written a novel about what lurks in the shadows of obsession, and the blinding light of hope.”

I’ve seen a lot of really good reviews from my trusty book friends. Even some that call it THE book of the year.

The Love of My Afterlife by Kirsty Greenwood

“A recently deceased woman meets “the one” in the afterlife waiting room, scoring a second chance at life (and love!) if she can find him on Earth before ten days are up….”

Got this one in one of my recent Book of the Month boxes and thought it’d be a good palette cleanser to read between all the thrillers and mysteries.

A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston

“A professor of literature finds herself caught up in a work of fiction… literally.”

I read The Dead Romantics (4 stars) last year and The Seven Year Slip (5 stars) earlier this year — both were cute! Read the synopsis on a recent Target run and had to add the newest Ashley Poston book to my fall reading list.

The Night in Question by Susan Fletcher

A lyrical and emotionally engaging novel infused with mystery and wisdom about love, friendship, and the power of forgiveness.”

Found this one at a local bookstore — the sticky note was calling all lovers of the Thursday Murder Club series. You know that’s me!

The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley

It all began with a secret, fifteen years ago. Now the past has crashed the party. And it’ll end in murder at… The Midnight Feast.”

Foley’s new locked room thriller. Hoping there’s a fun twist.

Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors

“Three estranged siblings return to their family home in New York after their beloved sister's death in this unforgettable story of grief, identity, and the complexities of family.”

As someone who’s very close with her two sisters, I think this one’s going to be special.

Middle of the Night by Riley Sager

“In the latest jaw-dropping thriller from New York Times bestselling author Riley Sager, a man must contend with the long-ago disappearance of his childhood best friend—and the dark secrets lurking just beyond the safe confines of his picture-perfect neighborhood.”

I’ve read every Sager book except Middle of the Night, his newest. Though many of his books are middle road for me, they keep me engaged and entertained and that counts for something. I’ll have to share my updated author ranking when I finish.

Bride by Ali Hazelwood

A dangerous alliance between a Vampyre bride and an Alpha Werewolf becomes a love deep enough to sink your teeth into in this new paranormal romance.”

It wouldn’t be fall reading without some kind of vampire/paranormal book. Let’s see how it goes.

How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix

“Grady Hendrix takes on the haunted house in a thrilling new novel that explores the way your past—and your family—can haunt you like nothing else.”

Okay, last year I read The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires (4 stars) and I REALLY LIKED IT. I was SO apprehensive going in. Anytime I see the “horror” label on a book, I almost immediately put it back on the shelf. I took a chance and well, it wasn’t all that bad haha. Gonna get cute and try another one from the same author.
