New Music Series: September 2019 Favorites

Hi friends!

Did you do anything fun today? We had a low key Saturday ourselves — a super lazy morning that bled into the afternoon (oops), a quick bite to eat at a local Mexican restaurant for lunch, and an afternoon pit stop at Jumpin’ Java Coffee Shop for an Iron Man Frap (needed that caffeine after a late night last night).

I was hoping the extra afternoon caffeine would give me the energy boost I needed to make it through the rest of the day, but I did a bad thing and took a two hour nap [late] this afternoon. It is what it is, I just hope I don’t pay for that nap when I go to bed tonight.

Anyways, it’s about time for us to chat about new music. If you were with me last month, you may have read my New Music Series: August 2019 Favorites post. If you’re new here or didn’t see last month’s post, make sure to check it out — there was a lot of good music released in August! And with that being said, it’s time to recap September 2019 favorites.

September was a weird month for new music. Sure there were a lot of new albums released, but many of the big name releases (Post Malone’s Hollywood’s Bleeding, Charli XCX’s Charli) didn’t tickle my music fancy. I wanted to like the new Goo Goo Dolls album Miracle Pill, but it fell flat to me. Jon Pardi released his sophomore country album Heartache Medication, but unfortunately it felt way too country cowboy for me. Not saying that any of the above albums were bad, just that I didn’t acquire the taste for them — and that’s okay. Everyone hears music differently, so you may like what I didn’t and vice versa!

Today I’m sharing five of my favorite new albums from September. They range from pop/rock (new Blink!) to a lighter Indie pop to country — a bit of variety to accommodate music lovers across the genre spectrum. To see my favorite choices from September, keep scrolling!

NINE, blink-182. Favorite songs include Happy Days, Darkside, Run Away, and I Really Wish I Hated You.

say it back, gianni & kyle. Favorite songs include bad one, how u get, and dangerous.

MAYBE, Valley. Favorite songs include Closer To The Picture, Loop Love, A Phone Call In Amsterdam, and Nowhere Fast.

HIXTAPE: Vol. 1, HARDY. Favorite songs include Redneck Tendencies, No Place Like Hometown, and One Beer.

Platonic - EP, Ryan Hurd. Favorite songs include To a T, Florida With a Girl, and Wish for the World.

Out of all my favorite songs from my favorite September albums, Wish for the World by Ryan Hurd took the gold medal as my overall favorite. The theme of the song, the well-written lyrics, and the light guitar notes under Ryan’s voice made it the total perfect package of a song for me. We all know the world needs more positive, happy, and encouraging moments and this song perfectly captures what positivity, happiness, and encouragement is supposed to sound like in under four minutes.

If I could make a wish for the world
There’d be one more cup of coffee
In the morning when you wake up
Just to soak the morning in
If I could make a wish for the world
Everyone would say they’re sorry
When they knew that they were wrong
And if they don’t we’d still forgive
— Ryan Hurd
