November 2024 Book Club Pick: The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley
Guess what friends? I (finally) started a virtual book club — my FIRST ever book club — and I couldn’t be more excited! Because I love talking books and book opinions with others (no two people read a book with the same perspective), I wanted to bring together a group of book lovers to (very casually) bond over books. With the popularity of reading blowing up over the last several years, so many people are reading books again and that’s so great to see!
So yeah, welcome to That’s What She Read virtual book club! I’m happy to have over 20 friends (including several new-to-me friends) who jumped in on the book club’s inaugural month. Every month, we’ll vote on which genre/book we want to read, then we’ll have fun session toward the month’s end to talk about it. Rinse and repeat. Whether you’re a physical book, e-book, or audiobook reader, all forms of reading count the same here.
The November 2024 That’s What She Read book club pick is The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley. I’ve personally read 3 other books by this author who’s known for her locked room thriller mysteries — The Guest List (4 stars), The Paris Apartment (4 stars), and The Hunting Party (2 stars). I’m really looking forward to picking up The Midnight Feast, a book I also featured on my 2024 fall reading list.
Here’s the synopsis from Goodreads:
Secrets. Lies. Murder. Let the festivities begin...
It’s the opening night of The Manor, and no expense, small or large, has been spared. The infinity pool sparkles; crystal pouches for guests’ healing have been placed in the Seaside Cottages and Woodland Hutches; the “Manor Mule” cocktail (grapefruit, ginger, vodka, and a dash of CBD oil) is being poured with a heavy hand. Everyone is wearing linen.
But under the burning midsummer sun, darkness stirs. Old friends and enemies circulate among the guests. Just outside the Manor’s immaculately kept grounds, an ancient forest bristles with secrets. And the Sunday morning of opening weekend, the local police are called. Something’s not right with the guests. There’s been a fire. A body’s been discovered.
THE FOUNDER * THE HUSBAND * THE MYSTERY GUEST * THE KITCHEN HELP
It all began with a secret, fifteen years ago. Now the past has crashed the party. And it’ll end in murder at… The Midnight Feast.
